Fourstep Progress Report
This might be my first actual informational update yet. Let’s get down to it, shall we?
After negotiating terms to have www.fourstep.com transferred to me, I finally have it. It took me a while to get in touch with the owner - who was in Sweden - but once I made contact, it took about a week for everything to finalize.
I put a teaser page up with links to our profiles on other websites as well as a form to sign up for our mailing list. The list is to notify people when the site launches. Once it launches I’ll delete the list and create a new one for a periodic newsletter. If you haven’t already, I suggest you sign up and put yout name on the list, :p
I really appreciate all the comments you guys are leaving on Twitter. Some of you sound excited for the site and some are even offering to help. Right now, the most help anyone can offer is to spread the word. Help us get more Twitter followers and more mailing list subscribers so we can launch with a bang. Keep sending comments on Twitter, it’s keeps the motivation up.
As far as the main page itself, I am still toiling away on code and hoping to launch by the end of the year. Hopefully it isn’t too hard for you to wait a few months because I think it will be worth it once we launch. When some of the sections of the site come together I’ll probably post info and perhaps a screenshot or two.
Anyway, thanks for checking us out, and keep checking back for more updates.
What to tumbl?
I had originally planned to use Tumblr as a blog for our new website and post anything that required more than Twitter’s 140 character limit.
I’ve gone over some options and decided it would be best to just build a blog into the site so registered users can comment and I can incorporate it into merged feeds, display posts on different pages, etc.
With that being said, what should I use Tumblr for? Twitter will be for quick short updates, the blog on the site will be for longer posts, so what to tumbl?
Just incase anyone is reading this and actually curious about our site I figured I’d throw some info out there about why our updates are so infrequent.
I have no experience developing a site on this level. It’s tough because at the same time that I need to be coding the site I also have to be learning how to do it. I’m going to use Ruby on Rails to hopefully speed up the development time but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy.
Updates are going to be slow coming at first but I hope to update more regularly once the project is announced and we get closer to some kind of launch.
If you have the resolve to stick with us and keep checking our updates I have a feeling you won’t be dissapointed. It’s a pretty cool project that I think a lot of people are going to like.
Feeling a little bored so here is a quick peek at our home page design. I blurred it so the text won’t give away what the site’s features are. It is just a design right now, none of the development has started. It also has dummy content and the final site might look a bit different. Let me know what you think.
We signed up for a Vimeo account. We are occasionally going to be posting videos, and once the site launches we plan to release videos on a regular schedule. Right now there is nothing there, but add us as a contact and get notified when we do.
Follow us on Twitter to keep on top of all of our updates. Not everything requires a full blog post on Tumblr, and those that don’t will get posted to Twitter. Check out our page, and don’t forget to follow us.
